About Conscious Breathing
Conscious Breathing is the first text book about Breathwork. It took me 15 years to write and I’m very proud of it. I cover many varieties of Breathwork (no one book could cover all of them), including Rebirthing Breathwork, Holotropic Breathwork, Conscious Breathing techniques, Advanced Breathwork and Breathwork Shamanism. I explain how to get the best out of your breathwork sessions. I give many case histories so that you can really understand what is happening. And I provide you with the grounding techniques that give the foundation for successful Breathwork.
I had my first Breathwork experience in 1965 doing Vipassana meditation – mindfulness of breathing. In the eighties, I had Rebirthing Breathwork sessions. I’d discovered meditation for two: the breathworker held the energy and the client, therefore, didn’t fall asleep.
In 1985 I took a breathwork training. In those days, Breathwork simply happened, and none of us understood how it happened. We entered great altered states of consciousness and terrifying altered states too. We went through periods of pure light and periods of great confusion. Our breath fell into the rhythms of the most advanced yogis, when it felt like it, but we couldn’t impose these rhythms or choose them. We became happier, our relationships improved.
I was determined to learn enough to explain the breathwork process of development. I think I’ve succeeded.
